Chiredzi Police Officer Arrested Busted With 146kgs Of Mbanje

A police officer from Ndali Police Station in Chiredzi was allegedly arrested on Monday while transporting a truckload of mbanje.

Sergeant Luckson Munhukwaye (43) along with his alleged accomplice Phyllis Mufandaedza were busted at Jack Quinton Bridge at Save whilst transporting 146kgs of mbanje, the reports.

It is in the State case that on the 1st of February, 2021 at around 3 pm Police at Ndali received a tip-off that there was a contraband of dagga at a certain house at Masekesa Business Centre. At around 1045pm, cops teamed up and proceeded to Mufandaedza’s residence where they conducted a search.

After a thorough search, they retrieved a packet of dagga which was hidden on top of the wardrobe at Mufandaedza’s place of residence.

The police decided to look for him. However, as the police drove along Tanganda – Ngundu Road they noticed a car with some sacks at the back and followed it.

The police managed to catch up with the car at the bridge and realized that Sergeant Munhukwaye was the one driving the car.

Sergeant Munhukwaye was arrested together with Mufandaedza for transporting 146.2kgs of mbanje.

The two were remanded in custody awaiting their bail application.

Even though mbanje was legalized in Zimbabwe, the production and distribution of mbanje without a license is illegal. Recently,  a 42-year-old in his backyard.

Following a tip-off, the police raided Mpumelelo Tshuma’s homestead and discovered four Mbanje (marijuana) plants that measured up to 2 meters tall growing in his backyard.  A plastic bag containing processed Mbanje was also discovered in his bedroom. He is currently in police custody.
